Magpul EMAG

Don’t you mean PMAG?

Magpul is infamous for the famous PMAG.  This was a relatively moderate priced magazine that has taken on various different colors, windows, etc. throughout the years.  However, people started to report problems with the magazines in European firearms.  The one that really broke this issue wide was the FN SCAR. Die hard supports of the PMAG started to modify the magazines to make them work correctly with the FN SCAR.  One of the most common issues was the inability of the PMAG to drop free from the gun.  This made tactical usage of the magazines with the FN SCAR impossible.  Personally, I quickly went back to the HK 416 magazines since they ran flawlessly in the gun, dropped cleanly out of the gun, no feeding problems, etc.  Also, depending on how you were taught to use your firearm, the push-smack method of magazine seating of the gun with the FN SCAR and certain magazines, can cause the top round to get loose and create a double feed.  If you use the push-pull method with the FN SCAR (that is actually required with a lot of other guns, most notably the Steyr AUG series) you can eliminate a lot of these.

At the end of the day, there are too many issues with the PMAG and the FN SCAR so Magpul created the EMAG.

EMAG

The EMAG is a windowed (not aware of a non-windowed, but don’t quote me on it) magazine for use with European guns.  I am not aware of any issue using this magazine in a Non-European gun like a typical AR.  I haven’t had any issues with them and have not heard of anyone else having issues with them.  At the end of the day, since I am not a big fan of having to think of what gear goes with what gun, my own personal setup will just have all EMAG versions from Magpul so I don’t have to think about it or worry about having the correct magazine.

The EMAG also comes with a magazine cover for the top to protect the elements (most notably dust) from getting into the magazine.  The dust cover can be removed and attached to the bottom of the magazine to stow it for storage.  They come in the same colors as the PMAGs, but are incredibly hard to find.  I am holding out personally for all tan ones to buy six of them for my FN SCAR.

Beyond the mechanical issues with the PMAG and european guns, I have not heard of any issues people have had with these magazines.  They sell for around $30 each and are a good magazine for the cost.  A popular addition used by military and contractors around the world.  I would suggest you personally buy one and try it out.  If you are unhappy with it, it should be very easy to find someone to buy the magazine off of you.
